Can't change webpage

I bought a used iMac with OS 10.2.1 and have a problem not seen on PCs. After a while I lose the arrow and get a multicolored circular whirl (black and white off the page) and can't change the page. When I restart, it works again for a while and then the problem begins again . Can somebody help this iMac rookie or direct me to the best iMac book out there? Thanks!

    I think since you got the computer used and apparently without a fresh install, you'll have to either re-install the OS with the (hopefully) supplied restore disks, or do a few simple maintenance things. check out this page: http://www.macattorney.com/ts.html for some more specific information.



    there are some applications out there that can automate most of this for you.
