iPod Video sync error

in iPod + iTunes + AppleTV edited January 2014
I've imported a .mov file into iTunes, to watch on my iPod video, but when it comes to sync, it says that the file cannot be synced to the iPod as the iPod does not play that file type. Is there a file extension that the iPod prefers and if so what is it? This is driving me insane!

    Just right click (Ctrl click) on the name of the movie and select "Convert for iPod" then it will transfer
