Smart Playlist feature I'd like to see

I really like the Smart Playlists in iTunes 3, but there's one thing that's either not possible or I haven't figured out how to do it. When I tell iTunes to give me 72 minutes of music, it does that with no problem, but since I've got lots of albums by the same artists loaded into the Library, the automatic playlists always have more than one song by at least one artist. I know it's easy to delete a song from the playlist so a new one will get dropped in, but is there a way to create a playlist that selects just one song by a particular artist?

let me get this straight, because you're somewhat confusing....

what you want is a 72 minute playlist, but you don't want any single artist to have more than one track in the playlist?

Exactly. I apologize if I wasn't clear in my first post. If iTunes picks 12 tracks totaling 72 minutes, I want to make sure it's also 12 different artists without having to go into the playlist myself to manually weed out duplicate artists. I bet it would be possible to write an Apple Script that does the trick (not because I know enough about Apple Script to say so with authority, but because I'm sure a scripting genius somewhere could figure out some way to do it.) Seems like there should be a way to do that right in iTunes without any additional scripting, though. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

from what little i've played around with the smart playlist feature, it doesn't seem possible to do what you want.

as for applescripting, i don't know. i haven't played around with the scripting in iTunes at all.
