imovie hd

i have a video project due soon and im using imovie hd. unfortunately i have run into a couple of problems. the main one i am stumped on it this... when i add an effect it seems to brighten to image the effect is added to greatly. i can not figure this one out does anyone know whats up?

    earthquake. or rain. or lightning. all the effects have the same problem

    Is this in your viewing window or in the final result?

    Pretty sure it's an issue of your camera-- basically all digital cameras. You'd have to research, but this isn't exactly unheard of. I believe it has something to do with the sensors they use. Unless it's very severe, my guess is that this is natural (although undesirable).

    nah man, im not useing a camera, just adding these effects onto images. ive tried many of the popular formats and they all have the same problem.
