will mbp ram work w/mbp core duo?

so apple did me a bonus and swapped out my mbpro that has been a nightmare over the last 9 mos. for a new core duo mbpro. i had 1gig of 3rd party ram installed on the previous book and was wondering if that gig would work on the new book.... thank YOU!

    Doesn't really matter, unless you got the bottom spec 15", since the top 2 come with 2 1gig DIMMs, so you're extra gig won't help you...

    so going from 2gigs to 3gigs of ram won't do anything????

    That's not it! The only way to upgrade from 2 gig is to get a 2GIG DIMM to replace one of the 1 gig DIMMs! You can't just add a 3rd DIMM, because there's only 2 slots...

    here's what it came with.....

    2gb of 667mhz ddr2 sdram (pc2-5300)



    what will i need to do then to max this machine out??

    Buy a single 2gb DIMM of RAM and replace one of the 1 gb DIMMs.



    Basically, there's 2 slots, one with max 1gb, and one with a max 2gb. The configuration it comes with is 2 1gb dimms, so you need to replace one with a 2 gb DIMM, which you can get from any number of 3rd party supplies if you like (although getting it preinstalled by apple isn't too expensive in comparison)
