Newbie Question

I just finished installing Parallels on my MBP core2duo. I have never used a virtual machine before so I have what might be a dumb question but here goes...

Do I need to put virus protection on the WinXP Pro virtual machine? Do I need to download all the windows updates as well? Any help would be appreciated.

    Yes, and yes.

It is a full blown Windows box, just, y'know, without the box.

Yeah you think it would be ok because you're running it under a Mac but one visit to a dodgy site and bam, viruses, trojans whatever. I can't believe I got about 20 malware items (2 serious) within 5 minutes of running XP under Parallels. Well, no I can believe it but still, it sucks.

Thanks all. I appreciate the info. I have downloaded the updates and put anti-virus on the machine. I love Parallels! What a great program! Thanks again!
