USB 2.0 yields slow data transfers.

I dont' know what's wrong with my mac's but, the data speed transfer sux on my new WD USB 2.0 60GB Passport. Isn't USB 2.0 suppose to transfer 480Mbps. Which is faster than firewire 400. But my firewire 400 transfers waaay faster.

I can't even play quicktime video thru my usb 2.0. Is there an update that will fix this?

USB 2.0 data transfers have unfortunately always been slower on the Mac than FireWire data transfers. It seems like Apple writes bad drivers for the USB port in order to (still) push FireWire as more favourable. Under Windows in BootCamp, the USB transfer rates are much higher (and about equal to FireWire's speed).

They are not consequent on this, though, because all the new iPods don't have FireWire connectors any more, but USB 2.0 (with lousy transfer rates also...). Maybe they will change this in Leopards, but I'm not so sure about that.
