Not likely. Lasers are more flexible because the processing is done on-printer. With inkjets this is usually not the case, and the driver makes a much bigger deal.
I could buy a cheap printer.. but is there any way to get the dell to work?
If Dell doesn't support it (I didn't check that) and the CUPS project doesn't have an entry for it (It doesn't, one site calls 944 a paperweight), you are out of luck.
I'd also suggest keeping the scanner and printer as separate machines, unless you need a fax machine or copier. If you do a lot of prints / copies / faxes, I'd strongly suggest a laser.

Yes, I tell people this all the time!! Those all in one printers are no good, they all suck. Yes they save space, but your be better off in the long run just having sperate machines.
