Moved: isync availablity
Is it just me or is isync late? I thought that we were supposed to have it in Sept. I am personally excited about it bu I have heard next to nothing from anyone on the boards or elsewhere talk about it. Did I miss something? Is it delayed now? Does anyone know?

= Shit happens all the time! Much of the time said SHIT doesn't make projects come sooner.
Too many people think Steve has all of this stuff done and sitting in some vault and is just waitin for a specific day to release it all... Sorry folks it just doesn't happen that way.

Software development to the scale Apple does requires schedules, milestones and testing. On some manager's calendar (or iCal, if they eat their own dogfood) there is a big red X that says 'Ship iSync.' And that's probably on his manager's calendar and on Steve's calendar.
Notice how they shipped Jaguar, bugs included, not just cosmetic ones either.
But we all know this to some extent. Apple, as usual, is using the vagueness of the public ship "date" to their advantage.
I think iSync is going to be one of the three most important iApps Apple ships.

Oh I agree 100% and I'm sorry if I came off a bit harsh in my initial post... I tend to do that some times... (admitting it is 1/2 the battle)
But given that iSync went from being 'Released' sometime in Sept to 'Public Beta iSync' being released by the end of Sept should have told everyone that this puppy needs more time to 'bake' before it's gonna be ready.
I'm all for giving Apple the time it needs if it means we get something in a usable condition. Sure Apple could make people happy and release what they have now and say 'see we kept our word' but if the app don't work what good is it... Better to miss a deadline and have soemthing useable then to 'hit the deadline' and have a bad user experience.
Sometime (like with a Major OS update) the ship date MUST be hit NO MATTER WHAT. Since so many other things are tied to the release. With iSync (unless Apple has some hardware just waiting in the wings that totally NEEDS IT before they can sell it - and no, the iPod doesn't really count) a self imposed deadline isn't nearly as pressing.

And that's the curious bit. What on earth did Steve demo? A GUI hack consisting of a three icons and a progress bar? Or are they rolling in features that will be "Insanely Great."
Also, if they're releasing a public beta the heat is off Apple to fix everything and just address moderate to critical bugs.
Screed ...unless of course iSync was found to routinely corrupt mobile phone firmwares or something equally horrific, I say "Ship it!!"

ummm well from ... reports ... I've read... iSync doesn't yet work (err or didn't as of the end of Aug) with Palm. (NB: iSync does/will require Palms Sync app but replaces all of the conduits with a single Apple iSync one.)
as far as iPod... Well that works okay... (or so I've heard)
as far as .mac (the person I was talking to was) too chicken to try it out.
as far as phone support... no BT yet and just a well since (he) don't have a BT phone to test it with anyway. Damn Verizon sucky phone choices!

I think I must have been having the same hallucination. I thought I would be able to sync files (addresses, iCal, etc.) between my Power Mac and my Powerbook. Oh well, we'll see.

In other words if YOU were to happen upon a copy of iSync (that you were not really suppose to have) would you out and out tell Apple by trying it out with a .mac account that you paid for? The person I know just didn't want to take such a bold risk.
