U can go download vlc (video lan client) for OS X from versiontracker or the vlc homepage.
it can open many types of files, including avi for your viewing pleasure. The only problem I can find with vlc is that the interface is not very nice. But then, once u watch a movie, just go to full screen and everything is good
You can also use divx doctor: <a href="http://doctor.3ivx.com/" target="_blank">http://doctor.3ivx.com/</a> to convert these .avi files to .mov. I've found this works in most cases, with only a few movies not working. You cna ussually place those with vlc...
