itunes wont work

Hi, I just received my 30 gb IPOD and downloadeditunes, several times, and still when I try to open it gives me the itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close... What must I do to be able to use this 250.00 toy?

     I'm probably not the best person to ask about PC's, all I know is my Mac has never done that.

    Is quicktime installed or did you uninstall quicktime after installing itunes? Some PC users do that because they think Apple are trying to screw them with sneaky installations but itunes needs quicktime to work correctly.
