mac os x desktop disapears

Recently a very odd thing started happening to my desktop in 10.4.8. When i go to a folder or icon and right click with my mouse or trackpad "black macbook core 2 duo" i get the beach ball to spin for a couple seconds and the desktop clears so all I can see is the desktop with no icons etc... then 2 or 3 seconds later they all come back. THis usually happens every 2nd or 3rd time that I go and get info or right click on either a file or folder.



Any ideas what might of caused this? I tried doing a repair on teh permisions and its fine, also did a did repair but it said that it was also fine.

sounds like the finder quitting/crashing and then relaunching. I am not sure what to do other than maybe trashing the finder preference files. search in user/library/preferences for com.apple.finder.plist and throw away, then log out and back on, maybe it will work. good luck
