Apple to grow iPod line slightly, sources say
Apple Computer is expected tack a new model onto its industry leading line of iPod digital music players as early as Tuesday, AppleInsider has learned.
Details are admittedly scarce, but people familiar with the matter say the new model will likely represent a slight variation of the Cupertino-based firm's existing offerings rather than a breakthrough new product.
Specifically, those people say the announcement will add a new color (or edition) of an existing iPod. Neither the particular color or iPod model were readily available.
Educated speculation points to a variety of possibilities ahead of the Valentine's Day holiday, such as a (PRODUCT) RED iPod shuffle, pink or RED fifth-generation video iPod, or branded special edition iPod. However, a most likely scenario would appear to be the addition of a 2GB (PRODUCT) RED iPod nano to round out the company's existing 4GB and 8GB offerings.
Apple originally introduced the (PRODUCT) RED iPod nano as a single 4GB model in mid-October but quickly expanded the offering to include an 8GB offering just three weeks later.
"Customer response to the iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition has been off the charts," Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing, said at the time.
Although the $149 2GB iPod nano remains the most popular model of Apple's best selling iPod line, it's available solely in a monotone silver.
Apple contributes $10 from the sale of each iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED to the Global Fund to help fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. It also sells a $25 iTunes (PRODUCT) RED gift card available for purchase at its Apple's retail and online stores.

Beatles Special Edition iPod anyone?
Right? I was wondering where the speculation of that iPod was in the article. That seems like the most obvious addition.

Reliable sources have indicated that an Apple product announcement is in the works for Tuesday, but sources have been unable to nail down the specifics of the announcement.
Sources have placed a reasonable degree of certainty on an announcement surrounding displays, however, suggesting a price cut at the minimum or a new line of displays entirely. Apple's displays have fallen significantly behind the competition; a 20-inch Dell display, which uses the same panel as Apple's 20-inch Cinema Display, sells for less than $400, while Apple continues to charge $700 for its equivalent display.
Don't fall for that Think Secret bull.
Yeah Think Secret generally is cr*p. However it is interesting that both sites are getting notice of something new tomorrow... not sure if that increases the likelihood or not.
If Apple was to release a 2gig red Nano I would guess its the right time. If they are adding Beatles to iTunes or even a Beatles iPod (Superbowl rumor) then they would be smart to announce the red one before this Sunday, so that they get max press out of both announcements.

We will see and I hope they are correct. I almost purchased a new 23" today but this rumor stopped me. I need a new monitor bad!
I like the idea of a RED shuffle, a RED 2GB nano, and a RED 5.5G iPod. I'd also like to see new displays at new price points and an updated Clovertown dual quad Mac Pro.
despite all the talk over a beatles ipod if they made one would anyone here actually buy one just cause it has something to do with the beatles...
Not for me... however if they made a Depeche Mode one I'd buy two...

Yes.
Depends on the deal and the timing. I currently own only one Beatles album in digital form. I do find that I yearn for the music from the old LPs in the attic, but can't quite seem to get started re-collecting all the albums. If I was in the market for a new iPod, and if the suposed Beatles version came with a certificate for Beatles music from iTunes to offset the cost... well I would be all over that.
In fact, as I type that, I get excited and think...maybe I am ready for a new iPod so, for me, maybe it only depends on the deal.
What would a special edition Beatles iPod be like? A white nano with the White Album preloaded? A Yellow Submarine version?
Ummm... Rubber Soul? It works with the Nike+ and fits on your shoe...
Roses are red,
nanos are too,
I want a 6th gen iPod,
and I'm sure you do too.
Cut the crap with these minor low-end product updates, Apple. "Ooh, pretty colors, that's how we'll compete with Zune and Sansa" (even though sadly it actually works). It's been since Oct/Nov 2005 since the flagship iPod received a new generation, and it's looking tired.

If they release a pre-loaded Beatles iPod, whatever color, they would not be about to keep production in line with demand; the Beatles are just so big its prettty incredible.
That said, I hope they just put the Beatles work on iTMS as individual downloads, not albums. I tend to like one or two songs off of albums and end up paying for stuff I never listen to.
Maybe a special edition one for Valentine's Day?
Pre-filled with the top-100 love songs from iTMS?

This won't happen Apple Computer doesn't exist anymore.
I think you mean Apple Inc.
