What file system do I need on my external harddrive if I want to write AND read the files in both Mac OSX and Windows?
I have a lot of files over 4 gb, so FAT-32 is unfortunately not an option.
Please tell me what I can do to solve my problem?
Since I have a similar situation to yours, I downloaded the free trial version of MacDrive 6. It works really well so far. l have an HFS+ formatted external USB drive that has a clone of my MacBook HD. After installing MacDrive 6 on my wintel machine, it recognized the HFS+ USB "Mac" drive and allowed easy drag and drop of windows files and folders including those greater than 4GB. After hooking it back up to the Macbook, I was able to drag standard Mac-usable file types (pdf, jpg, xls, doc, etc) to my Mac HD. Pretty painless.

Yea, making this happen - SEEMLESELY and 100% PERFECT seems impossible at the present. I long for the day when we truly have this sort of interoperability.
