Apple shuts down doesn't sleep

I think there's something wrong with my computer. Instead of going to sleep, it just shuts down now. It started doing that yesterday. It's frustrating. And it seems like sometimes the screen is darker then usual. I backed everything up on my external hard drive yesterday just in case.

My computer is a G5 ( not Intel)
