what is the smtp.mac.com?



I opened the mail icon and tried sending a movie file and it is asking me for my smtp.mac.com password?



What is this and how do I get that password?

    well i setup my email as [email protected]



    but I did not pay for the .MAC account

    No, it can also be used with the email address that you got when you signed up with your ISP.



    Preferences>Accounts>etc.



    If you have a GMail account, you can even use that!

    "Set-up" as in free trial?



    When you set-up the account it should have asked you to provide a password for the outgoing mail server, which is what smtp.mac.com is.

    Not at all, it can be used with pretty much any email service.

    well i am trying to send video files and the yahoo/gmail/hotmail allow up to 10 mb and the files i am sending are much larger than that. what other mail service can i use?

    It looks like an email address but, until you pay for .Mac, it's only use is as your ID on Apple websites.

    Gmail recently upgrade to 20MB max file size, but then you have to make sure that whatever email provider on the receiving end will accept big files.



    Gmail, obviously, I think there's a Yahoo plus thing for more money.......



    At some point you have to give it up and go with FTP.
