cleaning out external hard drive

i am going to sell my 150GB external hard drive. how do i successfully clean out the hard drive so that everything on the external is completely erased for good? i dont want anything being used or seen by the next person that has it.

    Just use Disk Utility, Erase, Security Options, Zero all Data. That actually writes zeros on the hard drive instead of just deleting the file and folder directory. Depending on how much time you have and how paranoid you are, you can escalate that to seven or thirty-five passes. One should stop all but the most determined.



    I was at a security conference when that same question was asked, the expert said "Install Windows ME on it. No one will ever be able to use it again..."
