ibook g4 crashed, wont start!

my ibook is about 3 years old and recently the screen froze and it started blinking random bright colors and then the page i was on flickered and then it died. it wont restart, when i hit the start button it starts to sound like its trying to start for a few seconds but then it just dies again. the power input and battery lights still turn green. could this be anything other then just needing to buy a new hard drive? thanks.

    It could be a logic board failure. The ibooks were well known for them. There was a replacement program for a range of serial codes but I don't know if that's still going.



    If the hard drive is making clunking noises, it's likely to be that. You can try booting holding command-v to see if it gives you any info on what's going on. Also try booting from an external drive if you have one or even just the system disc (not sure if you'll be able to get it back out though so it would be best checking this in an external DVD drive).
