I've had a couple of nasty kernel panics.. can anyone shed any light on what might be a cause of this?:

What were you doing at the time of the kernel panic and did it happen consistently with both?

Start with the usual things like checking memory using your hardware test or programs like this:

    http://www.memtestosx.org/

Also, what's the OS version and hardware spec?

Based on the crash data he provided, it's a first-generation low-end Macbook with 512 MB of RAM and a 1.83 GHz Core Duo.

    software version is 10.4.10

this is after I had a whole load of problems which I thought had been solved by taking out my RAM (2gb in matched pair from crucial) and putting in the original RAM from Apple. Initially it seemed to have fixed all my problems but since then I have been getting kernel panics like the one above. However, those only started after I installed the airport and security update. I've also had a couple of problems with the machine failing to turn on the display when waking from sleep.

Have you installed this EFI firmware update for the sleep issue:

Also, did your kernel panics happen before 10.4.10? There was an update to the Airport drivers that caused kernel panics on a lot of Macbooks. I managed to downgrade one manually by extracting the airport drivers from the old system updates and that stopped the panics.
