Limit of the mac pro

i have a few question on the limits of the mac pro, not the upgrades apple gives you.

What is the top Nvidia FX Quadro card you can put in the mac pro

Will the mac pro accept a nvidia 8800, (i know SLI wont work in OSX)

Is 32gb the current highest ram you can get, 8x4gb ea FB-dimm ram.

What additional hardware do you need to support 8 displays.

you need video cards with EFI biso and osx drivers for them to fully work.

That is the point, hence the way in which you phrased your question. The sky is the limit, as long as you get cards that support EFI, as joe pointed out and you so ignorantly disregarded. In response to your other questions, yes to the ram, and to the display you'd need a few adapters that run 3-4 displays each. I could get you the exact model of the one I used for a client's 32 20" lcd wall, I however do not have that off hand. For that install we did use 4 macs, but of course 32/4=8. Cheers mate.

The Apple 7300 cards will support 8 displays, you just need four of them. I don't know of any standard ATI or nVidia card that supports more than two displays per card. I know Matrox offers four head cards, but I don't know how well they will work on a Mac Pro in Windows. I don't think they support OS X with them.

I think Mac Pro will run nVidia 8800 in Windows. I think you still need a separate Apple-supported card to get it to boot though. I don't know anything about the Quadros. I think they might all run under Windows, but probably still needs a separate Apple-supported card to boot. Whether these options will run under OS X at all, I don't know. I'd love to experiment, but I don't have any PCIe cards other than the ATI that came with the Mac Pro.

I think 32GB is the current max. It might support 64GB with 8GB FB-DIMMS, but getting them is the hard part, 4GB modules look to be hard enough to get as it is.
