Photoshop CS 2 and earlier didn't run very well on the Intel Macs so I wouldn't expect Elements to as it's still PPC. I don't know why Adobe are taking so long with Elements 5.
It's not completely unusable and it depends what machine you will be using it on. Given the price you can get Elements, I'd still say it's a decent purchase but when I was using CS2, I was so fed up with it on the Mac side, I ran it under Windows in Parallels and it was still close to double the speed of the Mac version under Rosetta.
