Cabel modems

I have Comcast and want to stop paying a monthly rental fee.

What cable modems work well with comcast and a mac?

I have been looking at the:
  • D-link DCM-202

  • Linksys BEFCMU10

Both of these have a $20 rebate for the next few weeks.

Any tips would be great.

Cheers!

I can't give you a great answer, but Linksys makes great consumer stuff. Their firmware UI seems to be just a little bit nicer that everyone else's.

Either one and there are many others. It is not a Mac/PC thing, the routers are all configured with a web browser. I would add Buffalo and Netgear routers, but either of your choices will be fine.

Here is comcast list of units that will work. http://media2.comcast.net/anon.comca...sc/cmclist.htm We have an old BEFCMU10 ver2. We got it when we were with Adelphia before Comcast bought them out. It is out dated but works good. I expect the ver4 would be just as good if not better and will also support VOIP.

The BEFCMU10 version 4 model is one of the most popular modems on broadbandreports.com.

I use a Motorola SB5100 though...for some reason the Linksys doesn't like my line...it reports the SNR as 27 dB...
