I noticed on my iPhone that there is no longer a need to eject it after syncing is complete; it's ready to go as soon as it's done. Does this suggest future -Pod products and the like to automatically unmount after syncing?
A clue will be if the iPod Touch has the same characteristic. If so, it stands to reason that this will be an advantage of all further OS X-based handhelds.

I think all iPods can do what the first poster asked, you have to turn off Disk Mode and you can disconnect the iPod after it's done syncing. The eject icon in iTunes is just a formality once the sync is done. I think what iPhone can do is that you can pull it out even while it's syncing if you have to.
