There used to be a great 2D game called Dirt Bike for MacOS8/9. There was a 3D update released for OSX, but it wasn't as good and looks pretty terrible these days:
xMoto is fun. Its a physics based 2d side scrolling game. It has a large learning curve but you learn eventually. It has like 1000 levels and a great level creation tool as well.

but then again, thats like saying ever fps ever made is a carbon copy of doom.
