computer won't turn off, I need help

So, I'm going to make this long story short. My friend (not a cover up for me, don't worry) downloaded some, shall we call it "questionable material" onto my computer and limewire won't shut down. I tried reinstalling it but it still doesn't work. Because it can't quit properly, the computer won't turn off at all. I take the battery out and the computer just goes into some hibernation sleep mode thing and just boots up to where it was when I took the battery out.

Could it be a virus? I mean, I'm new to the whole Mac thing, so I'm not sure. It's just really bothering me that my computer is screwing up the way it is. Thanks in advance for the help.

force shutdown by holding the power button or try apple/option/power to restart. P.S dont download porn from limewire. and if you do atleast make sure its a video file. P.P.S lime wire runs on your computer using spyware and adware; unless the mac version differs from the pc one.

Yeah the Mac version is different, no spyware/adware AFAIK.

Can't the app just be force quit? Hold alt and then right-click the icon and force quit or use the command alt escape combo.

The app may also be in your startup items in system prefs so remove that too if you don't want Limewire to start at login. Apple menu > system prefs > accounts (select your account and unlock if necessary) > login items

And make sure there is no preference inside of limewire itself that has it start up on login. I had an annoying app that had that even though under my account preferences I told it not to. After you are able to force quit out of it, you should probably A.) delete this 'questionable material' and anything else you can think of related to it, and B.) delete everything that has anything to do with limewire (do a search and just delete all of it, but make sure not to delete any vital system junk) and then try to reinstall.
