Hi, just want to mention that Apple Mail in Leopard seems to default "ON" the incoming mail SSL. Which can cause problems... for IMAP those whose mail servers have SSL "off" on incoming, or "off" on incoming and outgoing IMAP servers....
There is nothing wrong with leaving your email clients as-is exactly as the Gmail Help documents instruct. Unfortunately, you will start to see a little inconsistency between your email clients and your Gmail web interface.
At the risk of sounding stupid, how do you turn of ssl for your outgoing server in mail 3.0? I am trying to set up a POP account and it defaults the ssl to be on for the outgoing mail server. Can't seem to find anywhere to turn it off. Any help would be appreciated.

Take a look at both IMAP support pages for Apple Mail and the iPhone. Both share similar steps including:
Incoming Server: imap.gmail.com
Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com
Authentication: [email protected] + email password
?Use secure Socket Layer (SSL)?
Ports: 587 Outgoing, 993 Incoming
