You can use Picasa from google to do this. They reduce the size of each photo to about 1MB. Just log in as the user at the 2nd machine and download the pictures. If you want larger sizes email is the best way to go, depending on how big your server is and what your ISP allows.
I'm running the newest version (iLife 08), and I'm trying to transfer like 50 or so pictures.
Definitely, put them all into a single "event", highlight the event in yellow frame, go to Menu, Share > Web Gallery, done.
Don't forget to check "Allow visitors to download photos".
You can give them that gallery url (inside your iPhoto, up top gray bar inside your gallery tab), and they can see all the photos and download the ones they want. They can even "subscribe to photo feed" using your Web gallery url right from their iPhoto '08 File menu, even simpler.

If you want to send someone a bunch of high resolution images, or any (number of) big file(s), and if you have broadband access, you can use one of these 11 FREE Large File Transfer services:
• Podmailing.com is FREE and allows transfer of unlimited numbers of files of unlimited size. I've transferred upto 6GB files without a hitch.
