    I have an Agfa, and it works fine. It's a very low-end scanner, but it's fine for me, and OS X support is fine.

    What kind of scanner Adam?

    If you want a flatbed, Agfa would be your best bet as far as quality of product and immediate support for OS X. If you want a film scanner, I believe all of Nikon's latest models are now supported by an OS X version of NikonScan (which is still a bit flawed but vastly improved over a few months ago). Also, you may want to check the Silverfast web site. Depending on the kind of scanner you have / want, that product may be available for you (for OS X). Not sure how far along they are in that effort, but definitely worth a look.

    Epson has been dragging along for months now when it comes to scanner drivers. I've not seen any announcements of newly released wares either, even though several of their printers now support OS X.

    I am really very curious how long it takes a or even a few programmers to sit down and write a scanner driver. You would think with companies like Epson and Canon, and UMAX they have at least three people to dedicate time on writing something... <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

    Thanks all I will check around but I was kind of hoping to stay with epson. Maybe I will have to change my mind.

    I like the new epson GT 9700F which has been released here in Tokyo (not sure on US) and it is both USB and firewire... and has a 12 neg scan capability (2400dpi). Street her is less than US400, but as is noted by all, No OS X support. My epson PM900-c is printer is suported out of the box in OS X..... I aggree with Jared. Maybe Epson will have its act together for MWTokyo in march.?

    I have an Epson Perfection 1650 Photo that is doing quite well in OS X(the Epson Smartpanel software runs in Classic). I have Classic running all the time anyway so it's no exceptional burden for me.

    I thought Agfa was exiting the consumer/low-end scanner business, so I don't know if that's a good route as far as future driver updates. For goodness sake avoid Umax like the plague they are (Junk).

    What would be great is if Apple made Image Capture plug-in'able (I think it is already is but they are not called plug-ins) so that you could use scanners in it too. That way we would not have to deal with crap for software and we would just have to worry about scanner plug-ins...

    The <a href="http://guide.apple.com/"; target="_blank">Mac Products Guide</a> says that none of the present FireWire-based scanners are OS X-ready.

    The same guide says that for USB scanners, only Afga ones are OS X-ready. Hard luck.

    i second the vuescan suggestion. works with microtek 5700 firewire scanner in OS9 and OSX. no extensions, no silly system folder goo, just an app. the interface is quirky, but scans are high-quality.

    I would checkout the following site <a href="http://panda.mostang.com/sane/"; target="_blank">http://panda.mostang.com/sane/</a>;

    becuase OS X is built on BSD there isn't any reason why this could not be recompiled and work for your needs including XSane.
