OS X scanners
I just checked with the eps0on home page here in Tokyo and as of 27 Dec they have once agian said that they are not yet ready with OS x support...... and they now dont even give a date like the hopeless end of 2001 initial prediction.
What are the optsion for OS X scanners..... in particular any firewire ? (I actually wanted an epson but I cant wiat for ever (its now been almost a year without support for OS X.)
any suggestions
Cheers

If you want a flatbed, Agfa would be your best bet as far as quality of product and immediate support for OS X. If you want a film scanner, I believe all of Nikon's latest models are now supported by an OS X version of NikonScan (which is still a bit flawed but vastly improved over a few months ago). Also, you may want to check the Silverfast web site. Depending on the kind of scanner you have / want, that product may be available for you (for OS X). Not sure how far along they are in that effort, but definitely worth a look.
Epson has been dragging along for months now when it comes to scanner drivers. I've not seen any announcements of newly released wares either, even though several of their printers now support OS X.
I like the new epson GT 9700F which has been released here in Tokyo (not sure on US) and it is both USB and firewire... and has a 12 neg scan capability (2400dpi). Street her is less than US400, but as is noted by all, No OS X support. My epson PM900-c is printer is suported out of the box in OS X..... I aggree with Jared. Maybe Epson will have its act together for MWTokyo in march.?

I thought Agfa was exiting the consumer/low-end scanner business, so I don't know if that's a good route as far as future driver updates. For goodness sake avoid Umax like the plague they are (Junk).
I am really very curious how long it takes a or even a few programmers to sit down and write a scanner driver. You would think with companies like Epson and Canon, and UMAX they have at least three people to dedicate time on writing something...

You would think the same for Apple wouldn't you
The same guide says that for USB scanners, only Afga ones are OS X-ready. Hard luck.
becuase OS X is built on BSD there isn't any reason why this could not be recompiled and work for your needs including XSane.
