Weird iTunes behavior

Hey,

I'm a new Mac user.

I've just realized that my "Music" folder (under my profile) holds an "iTunes" folder and that all my music files are duplicated into it (I have a separate music folder where all my music files are supposed to be).

This is while iTunes preferences is set so that:

1. "Keep my library organized" is off

2. "Copy files to music folder" is off

Any idea why is that?

May be the settings were disabled after iTunes was done screwing with your music library.

    I don't think so...

Anyway - Do you think I should let iTunes organize my files?

I'd say no, but maily because I use other apps that link to the same library.

Don't let iTunes organize it for you if you already have it organized. If you have any compilations or soundtracks with different artists (and don't have the compilation option ticked for those files), iTunes will have a separate folder for each one of those artists. Doesn't really make a lot of sense. Plus, it renames all of the files as well. I'm really picky about this. Good thing I knew about these quirks before I imported my files the first time.

I would let iTunes organize it unless you do a lot of direct file navigation and usage.
