I am new to backing up files and using an external hard drive. I am getting a mybook external hard drive for christmas so i am getting ready for it now so when i get it, my comp is all ready to go. i have about 50 gigs of movies and what i am trying to to is just get them on the external hard drive and not on my computer. so i can only watch them if my external hard drive is plugged in. how do i do this. i have a folder onmy desktop with all my movies but when i dragged the movies into iTunes it copied the files into iTunes and thus doubling the memory. what am i doing wrong.

thanks in advance

In iTunes preferences, go to Advanced and uncheck the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder..." option. You then need to copy your movie files onto your external drive, then drag those files into iTunes.
