Change movie speed on iMovie 08?/Other app?

Hey,

I'm using the new iMovie 08 and I love it...

However I'm missing the capability to alter a video clip's speed (slow-motion/high speed).

It can't be done via iMovie, can it?

Do you have any suggestions for the easiest way to do it on a Mac and integrate it with iMovie afterwards?

You can't at the moment, at least, not until Apple gets it's act together and puts basic features back into iMovie 08. Fortunately there is a work around. Just import your clip into iMovie HD, change the speed and then export it at full quality and reimport it into iMovie 08. You can download iMovie HD here.

    you have two options:

use iMHD6 for 'effects', as iM08 owner, you're allowed a free download of iMHD6 here:

    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html

or, follow advice, given on this site, using a free 3rd party app with excellent results by using 'frame blending' ... :

Thanks guys. Tell me what you think - as a new Mac user, that never worked with iMovie 06, should I try using it in addition to 08, or would I be better just use 08 with other programs as needed? (like the one here for slow motion events)

All in all, I love 08, but I'm not sure if I'm missing anything important on 06...

I'm using iM since its vers2 .. iM08 was a shock.. totally different UI, different concept (library.. for video! . .. where's my 'homeserver'?) , 'internet delivery only' etc.pp.

but, your last line discribes it: for a newbie it offers 'instant gratification' .. that 'skimming' is an example for excellence in designing user interfaces..

in iM08, you can 'Export with Quicktime..'/dv-stream, or for HiDef, Apple Intermediate and use those clips in iMHD6.. so it is an option, to use iM08 as main editor and iMHD6 as 'effects machine' ... for me unusual is the the new conecpt to switch the apps for audio processing (share to Media Brwoser, then use the many tracks and effect of Garageband), I was happy for years with the 2.5 tracks in iMHD ..

depending on your needs and growing skills, I tell you, sooner or later you'll switch to FinalCutExpress anyhow
