FireWire is now on the pci-e bus.
the 2 pci-e x16 2.0 slots come off the North Bridge the 1.1 ones come from the South Bridge.
The mac pro has pci-e x4 + ESI X 4 link from the NB to the SB.
The Xserve has pci-e x8 + ESI x4 for it's link.
it is a little better then the older mac pro but havening the raid card + other pci-e x4 card + firewire + Airport + Dual gig-e + usb + sata / ide and FWH bus all have to use the pci-e x4 + ESI X 4 link to get to ram and the cpus.
so if you only use 2 pci-e card use the 2 pci-e 2.0 slots.
