IPod Will Only Play One Song

My mum got a new 80gig IPod for her Christmas, dont know what generation it is but it is 80gig, new and slimmer than my 80gig IPod. After it plays one song it stops and wont go on to the next song, be it in a playlist or just an album. It doesnt turn off, it just stops after one song. This is not a problem i have encountered before and i have had my IPod for over a year now. I have reset the settings but still no progress, anyone got any help for me?
