Changed background colour in windows not staying

in macOS edited January 2014
When I change (Menu Bar > View > View Options) the white background to a coloured one in my windows, the colour stays only until I re-boot, then it changes back to white. Bleeech.

A variation of this is, when I have two different colours, one for the "HD" and and one for "Applications", the Application colour will change into the HD one, after I have opened and closed the windows a few times.

Now surely that can't be the way it was meant to work?

Could someone possibly please try this out on their machines and let me know what the outcome is, as I don't seem to be able to pinpoint the problem

    Thanks already.

Have you tried nuking the .DS_Store file in that folder? That's what holds these settings and if it is owned my another user (probably root) then your settings will not be saved between logouts/reboots.

I just tried this and the colour and settings stay as they were. No problem at all <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

    You are probably using a German Version <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

Thanks.

well, you may think you're the only user... but you're not. unless you're always root... there should be root + you. 2 users, at least.

I'm sure there are several other users on your computer including root, nobody, www, and daemon. Seriously, though, packages that use Apple's Installer.app are infamous for overwriting permissions and .DS_Store files and thus root can often become the owner without you realizing it.

    Hello old mate!

Sorry to see you in trouble, but you're not alone with this one. Same memory loosing effects here. So I am practically spending my time in list view 99% without background images or colours. And it keeps rearranging my drives on the desktop each time I boot.

    This Finder is still a pile of naughty behaviour. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
