Macbook fried with Mac Mini 85W adapter?

Hello!

Laptop: Macbook 13".

A couple of months ago I got the well-known problem with broken magsafe coord.

After that I read on some forums that a 85W MBP works fine on a Macbook.

So I found this on ebay, and thought if it works on a MBP, it should work on a Macbook.

(Mac Mini 85W ac adapter, converted to fit MBP.)

It looks pretty silly (But hey, it was cheaper!)

But when I connected this device to the Macbook, the battery indicator on the screen changed to a X.

Before it changed to battery power if the coord was disconnected, but now when the battery is empty it just dies.

After a couple of weeks using this I got tired to run around with this clumbsy device, so I bought a orignal Magsafe 60W.

I was hoping it would solve my problem, but it still says that no battery is inserted.

There is no orange light on the plug and laptop dies when I disconnect.

Is my computer fried forever or do you think it is the battery?

I have no warranty left or anything either...

Here are the specs:

Mac mini adapter specs:

50/60 Hz 1.3A Output: 18.5V 4.6A

Magsafe 60W adapter specs:

50/60 Hz 1.5A Output: 16.5V 3.65A

Thanks for reading!

Sorry for my bad english

Regards

Stefan H, Sweden.

Can't you take it to an Apple store and have them check it out? I wouldn't spend more money on experiments without knowing the real problem. It is more likely that you damaged the power circuit and not the actual battery.

    Thanks for the reply.

That sounds expensive, and the warranty may not cover this?

Doesn´t matter really because it ended one year ago

Maybe this would be worth a try?

I contacted Apple for a replacement battery, and got today for free.

Battery and recharging is now working properly
