Possible workaround for printer sharing?

First a caveat: I haven't written a line of code since Applesoft Basic on my first computer (a 48K Apple ][+). So I have no idea what the potential obstacles may be to this, but it seems to me that it should be fairly simple to create a script/daemon/whatever that:

1. Periodically checks for any documents in a particular folder

2. Opens anything it finds and spools it to the printer.

3. Deletes the just-printed doc from the folder.

Why would I want to do this? Because it would let me share the USB printer on my G4 tower from my PowerBook. All I would have to do is save whatever I wanted to print to a shared folder on the tower.

Can someone with more technical knowledge than myself provide some suggestions for how to accomplish this (or burst my bubble of enthusiasm by telling me why it isn't possible?)

Thanks!

that exact thing was a commonly used method in the old Mac OS before OS 9 with USB Printer sharing.

it was done but I don't know how to write the script.
