dissapearing Address Book.app metadata folder

I opened Address Book this morning to find that all my contact were missing. I found, in the trash for some reason, my Address Book folder that belong in library/application support/address book but therein was no metadata. I did manage to scrap from that my mail recipients file and get all that back, but the important meta data folder is still missing.

Does anyone have any ideas about what to do to get it back?

Right. I don't have time machine running because I'm on a very mobile Macbook pro.
