Both Americans and Canadians will be treated to special displays for iPhone 3G when they walk into their respective stores on Friday, according to reports.

Gizmodo notes that Apple is once again using oversized models at its retail stores to lure customers in. The replicas similarly loop a video highlighting the new iPhone's features, though this year they at least receive a new background: streaks of light resembling fiber optic cable sit behind the display.

Meanwhile, Canadians will also have access to slightly more functional demo units at their own stores: a leaked manual shows Rogers and Fido shops receiving a podium with a working iPhone 3G unit -- and an alarm to prevent visitors from simply stealing the handset.
