MobileMe deletes my emails!

Started my system this morning and MobileMe seems to have deleted large quantities of my emails, including several most recent ones that I had yet to reply to. I thought this had happened before, but blamed my editing of email accounts when MobileMe became active. But this is definite, they were there last night and gone now. Not what I expect from an email service.

    did you erase them on a synced device or possibly move them to an "on my mac" folder in the mail client of another computer?

    No. They still appear on my Macbook, I didn't touch them on any of my devices, nor move them to a different folder. Incidentally Mail on my iMac is not receiving any email sent to the MobileMe address. Since then I've tried to reset the iMac from MobileMe, logged in and out and yet it still doesn't seem to work.
