If you could bring a dead rock star back to life for one gig, who would it be?

John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Buddy Holly? Freddie Mercury? Or someone else?

This Day in Music are carrying out a world-wide survey to see which dead rock stars people would want to see again - for one night only!

Who would you pick? You can see a full list and vote on

Just had a look at the results so far, John Lennon in third, John Bonham from Led Zepp in second and Elvis has the most votes at the moment.

I would've thought John Lennon would win this no problem? Freddie Mercury is in forth place, Hendrix is in fifth and Kurt Cobain in sixth.

Robert Nesta Marley got my vote ...

With ANY of them though, you have to wonder if their music would have gotten any better ... it's always possible that they went out at the top of their game, and their popularity would have faded had they kept making music.

Johnny Cash isn't a rock star, but what are you going to do.

Also, George Harrison, cause he was an angel.

Cobain for sure. I had a chance to see Nirvana for the In Utero tour, but I had a final exam the next day so I passed it up.

But I'd bring Kurt Cobain back with one caveat - he would have to kick heroin before playing that one gig for me (I'm assuming in heaven there are unlimited quantities of every drug imaginable, and some new ones, too). I was into collecting concert bootlegs for a while back in the 90s, and Nirvana was definitely better live when Cobain was off the smack. I suppose this is true for any performer.

What's up with Elvis? He's not even dead yet! Seriously, why would anyone want to see that fat slob shake his big ass at some cheesy Las Vegas casino?

Lennon, Cash and Hendrix I get, Mercury too. Bonham? You'd need to make the rest of Zep younger for that to be worthwhile, and Zep just played a few reunion concerts anyways.

My first pick is Cobain, but were this not limited to rock stars, I'd go for John Coltrane doing a gig at the Half Note.
