wireless N on my MBP

I was curious if there was a way to upgrade to wireless N on my MacBook Pro. it's the 2.16 Core Duo (most likely first generation). Is there somekind of card/slot that i could upgrade this to a wireless N? I have wireless N network in my home, and would like it for higher transfer speeds and range in my home.



Is it possible? and could someone point me in the right direction to hardware?

    Try these: big fat disclaimer, I haven't any experience with any of them other than to say that I believe they should just work. If it were me I would opt for the card before the usb devices.

    so am i to understand that first generation MBP use the network card on a mini PCI-e slot?

    Yup ... but I have to say now that I've had a chance to post properly that it looks somewhat "unprotected".

    The description is for a card that requires a notebook with mini PCIe... but that pic, hmmm.



    I'd look around on Nextag at some of the other notebook cards and go to manufacturers sites before bidding on eBay quite frankly - you want to be sure it will work, right ?

    Just get a card you can slide into the the pcie slot ...

    are you actually referring to the expansion slot (PC Card)



    PCI-e (to what i thought was) an internal slot within the MBP.



    what's the technical term for the PC card type on the left?

    heh, confusion reigns ... I skimmed the auction blurb, sorry 'bout that.



    Yep - an external card is the way I'd go. But hey if you want open up your MBP - ok, go for it.

    And yes that card should work fine if you're going to go the internal way.



    I thought you were asking for a quick plugin fix - which is why I posted the external choices on offer.

    Either way - you should be fine.

    ok, by external card do you mean, an "express card" (is that the technical term vs. the bigger PC card) ?

    Yes, express card - for a notebook internal they call it an "internal mini pcie card". Back in the olden daze we used to say pcmcia card and everyone knew it was for a bus card ... :-) Shoot, I should have picked up on that when i saw the pic on the auction, there you go - somewhat embarrassed here, sorry for any confusion ...



    Can't comment on the data card other than to say - if you need a data plan then you you need it. But yeah, one of those for on the go and a N express card at home would have you covered

    This card looks like an internal airport card, it even has the connectors for the antennas.

    The text says it's to be used in a PCIe slot.

    Does this mean that there's 2 PCIe systems in the MBP? The external one & the one for internal airport card?
