I'm sure I'm wrong, but I thought that, one of the reasons Apple didn't go with Verizon, was the lack of a 3G network?

There is a full page add in our local paper saying "join the largest 3G network in America" - Join Verizon.

40.5 million Verizon Wireless subscribers have a 3G phone (page 7).

In fact, Verizon has 1.5 times the number of 3G subscribers than Vodafone's ENTIRE European operations (which includes UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and 5-6 other European countries) --- page 10.

Apple didn't go with them because they wouldn't give Apple the complete control of the phone,

that Apple demanded---Verizon tends to cripple features on phones and then charge the

customer for using the features, like porting photos to your computer, or using GPS--all requiring

extra charges and also because Apple wanted at the time a piece of each monthly charge and Verizon wouldn't give it to them---

ATT (Cingular) at the time was in dire straits ----and agreed to Apple's terms
