Few noob questions

Hi,

iPhone launches in my country in a day, so I'd a couple questions (that I can't ask at apple forums):

I'm challenged in the geek department, so please be nice ... :-)

1. What exactly is "jailbreak(ing)"?

2. Does it void it my warranty?

3. If so, can I wipe off the HDD, restore firmware and get back to "jailed state" before sending in, does that help?

4. I've a latest gen MBP, will it sync to my ical, itunes, address book using isync or something?

5. Can I receive/make calls/sms from my macbook (using a 3rd party app I guess?) when iphone is connected to it?

6. Can I use my Macbook/WiFi Router connection on iphone?

7. Can I use my iPhone connection on my Macbook (using some hack/app) ?*DUN Profile required I believe?

8. Does it support bluetooth headphones (using some hack/app)? I'm glad that it does support "headsets" and my sony dr-bt22 will work, but "headset" sound quality is quite lower than "headphone" (A2DP) I believe?

9. Does it do video recordiong (using some hack/app)?

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance for your help! :-)

    1. Modifying the firmware so that you have greater control over your iPhone. i.e. able to install apps not released through Apple iTunes.

    2. I think, yes.

    3. I think, yes

    4. Yes, it will sync these through iTunes. You can also get MobileMe and it will sync these over the air, without having to physically connect to your MBP

    5. Don't know. There were third party apps for the Mac for other phones, so this would be possible, but not sure if the SDK allows it or if a dev has created an app to do it.

    6. Yes

    7. Yes and No. It is possible. There was an app for iPhone called Netshare that allowed tethering (sharing your internet connection from your iPhone to your computer) but it was pulled, probably because AT&T does not allow tethering. Unfortunately, this prevents those of us in countries whose carriers allow it as well. If you jailbreak your iPhone, there are way to do it.

    8. A2DP is not supported.

    9. If you jailbreak your iPhone there is a way to do it.
