OSX automatically logs out after period of inactivity

Lately I'm starting to notice that if I leave my Macbook just sitting there for awhile, when I return to it, it didn't go to sleep, but it rather logged me out, leaving me at the login screen. I then have to re log in and re-open everything I was working on, pretty annoying...

Anybody know why this happens and how to fix it? (Leopard btw)

Go to System Preferences, then to Security.

There is an option to automatically log off the user after a set period of inactivity.

Aha! There it is! I've looked under a few icons in SysPrefs but forgot to check security. Thanks a lot!

My Macbook Pro has just started doing this too, yet it is set to require a password after 1 hour. Uses OSX10.7.5 I can't see an option to log off automatically after any period.

System Pref - security and privacy - advanced Tab (bottom right corner). You should then see the  log out option for inactivity.
