Better upgrade????

I have a G3 iMac 500Mhz upgraded to 384MB RAM with OS X 10.1.5.

Here's my issue.

£99 for an extra 512MB RAM. Totalling 768MB RAM.

Approx £99 for OS X 10.2.

Which one would result in faster speed overall?

I cannot afford both.

Sorry.

    You can't download memory.

Get the RAM. It'll help your current OS, and when you can afford to upgrade, it'll help that, too.

To be honest, I say spend it on Jaguar. 384 MB is fairly sufficient, and Jaguar is MUCH faster than 10.1. I've been using some of the more recent builds, and in a lot of things it is now as fast or faster than OS 9.

Amorph makes a very good point also... so I'll say you can't go wrong either way. You will see a speed increase by doing either one, I tend to think it will be more noticable with Jaguar. I'm running it with only 256 MB of RAM and it's faster than 10.1 ever was.

I vote for Jaguar. At some point you run into the law of diminishing returns by adding RAM, but if we can believe Apple's claims, even non-QE-enabled machines like an iMac will see considerable speed increases with 10.2.

Get the cat. 10.1.5 for all intensive purposes is a peice of shit. Your probably gonna need 10.2 for most of the new iapps, as well as alot of software (like audio)

It's not just a far better OS, but also the apps that come with it, like the new sherlock, the search box which replaces sherlock, new mail app, spring loaded folders, funky new beach ball etc. etc.
