Echoing its parent company Best Buy's move in the US, Canada's Future Shop on Thursday said it would carry iPhone 3G in its stores starting October 1st.

The big-box retailer will both sell and activate phones in-store as well as provide accessories for Apple's device, only a handful of which have been in their stores until now.

The initial launch includes 15 stores across the country and focuses largely on major cities and locations, including a handful of stores in the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal and Vancouver, as well as individual shops in Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa.

Despite the absence of iPhone sales at Canadian Apple stores, the country has had slightly less urgency for alternative retail locations since the July launch in the country. In addition to Rogers and Fido stores, buyers have also had their pick of carrier-independent stores including Cellular Wave and The Telephone Booth.

I'd wait for 4G network operators to offer the iPhone.

Among the newest licencees from the federal government, Videotron is currently building its 4G network in Toronto and throughout Quebec.

I'd wait for this one, if you like performance.
