Mail: Sends 1 SMTP Then Stops

Suddenly my trusty and much-used AppleMail program chokes on sending SMTP eMails. When I send an eMail it just gets stuck in the 'sending' mode--- never gives an error or gives up. If I quit Mail and relaunch it, the queued eMail sends fine, but any subsequent eMails get stuck until I quit/relaunch. The ONLY change I have made to my configuration is installing BOINC and Seti@Home-- which I don't think should affect Mail sending. I'm sending mail via SMTP. Any Ideas?

    Have you tried opening the Activity window by clicking "Window -> Activity" from the menu bar? It shows you what Mail.app is actually doing in background and may give you some hints to solve your issue.
