Flash on Mac, still stinks

Anyone else catch this article over at ArsTechnica?

At first I was somewhat impressed - the benchmarks showed that on non-video flash stuff, Flash 10 (which I did install recently myself) does do much better than Flash 9. Across the board, there were some improvements. I also looked at the Linux results, and they seemed pretty close to the OS-X version of the plugin.

Then at the end of the article, they run down the numbers for Vista (on the same hardware). Very, very disappointing. The difference in speed/efficiency is just embarrasing. And think about how much of the Flash content is likely created by web designers working on Macs...

Anyhow, here's some numbers.

OS-X, Flash 10:

GUIMark Flex3: 28 FPS, 140 percent CPU

Hulu Video: 56 percent CPU

YouTube: 40 percent CPU

Vista, Flash 10 (on the same Mac Pro):

GUIMark: 46 FPS, 54 CPU

Hulu: 7 percent CPU <<<<<------!!!!!!!!

YouTube: 6 percent CPU <<<<<----!!!!!!!! These are truly the WTF numbers...

This is just me ranting. I'm going to report my disappointment about the performance on the OS-X side here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/...?name=wishform
