I'd like to see steve write an open letter about it FIRST to see how he thinks it should work, rather than wake up one tuesday morning and find that everything has changed with, no doubt, the price going up for most people.
Actually, when i read the title, I thought, "great idea!".
Didn't have anything to do with gift cards though.
Why not have a global iTunes store encompassing items that don't have any international rights issues? These items would be available around the world, and could be inserted seamlessly into the local stores for those countries that have them, at the local price, and would also be accessible to people in any country with an online Apple Store. The only thing different would be the price and local description. Then different publishers could strike deals that would eventually allow more and more media to be included as part of the new market that would be thus created?
