Near useless iPhone external keyboard hack surfaces

While the feasibility of such a hack is close to zilch, some folks in Japan have managed to connect a Palm / Visor external keyboard to a jailbroken iPhone 3G with help from some Ruby code and a custom (serial?) cable.

A still photo can be seen below, and a video after the jump. As is apparent from the video, the tiny external keyboard offers little in speed and accuracy advances.

The iPhone is the only smartphone on the market without a foldable external keyboard available. Blackberry, WM, and S60 have these small keyboards which means that is it often possible to travel without the need for a full size laptop. Get with it Apple. Open up that crippled Bluetooth to make this possible.

Just another case of "Steve knows best".

They have BT keyboard support on the desktop, ready to go. No real reason why they would not include it.
